The big PlayStation Showcase is the event of the year for PlayStation console owners, as all the most highly-anticipated releases are revealed and given release dates, gameplay trailers, and teasers to amp fans up!

This year, Sony has pulled off a dramatic reveal for their PlayStation 5 lineup for the remainder of this year and beyond into 2024, pulling the curtain on plenty of their big titles, like gameplay footage from Spider-Man 2, a release date for Alan Wake 2, as well as some new indie games on the scene.

Fairgame$: Take 'Til You Make It

Sony kicked off the PlayStation Showcase on May 24 2023, with the first game from Jade Raymond's Haven Studios.

Fairgame$ is a new game with a Sci-Fi twist, drawing inspiration from titles like GTA, Payday, and Watch Dogs with distinct hacking and heist mechanics. Check out the cinematic trailer here.

Spider-Man Gameplay Teaser Trailer: Plenty Of Miles Per Hour

Insomniac Games teased fans with a lengthy gameplay showcase featuring iconic Spider-Men characters, both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, as two playable characters for double the trouble.

The OG Spider-Man, Peter Parker, showcases brand-new moves revolving around the Symbiote Suit, taking his powers to all-new heights. As seen in the trailer, the new traversal-spidey mechanics look even more fluid than in the first two games, meaning more Miles per hour and minute! Check out the gameplay trailer below.

A new Spider-Man villain, Kraven the Hunter, has also been revealed, spelling trouble for our spidey heroes.

Project Q Announcement: PlayStation Handheld Device

The biggest announcement from the PlayStation Showcase 2023 was Project Q, a streaming handheld device set to rival the likes of the Steam Deck. It is designed for you to play games installed on your PlayStation 5, streaming your games over a stable WiFi connection using Remote Play.

It also has an 8-inch HD screen with all the buttons and features of the DualSense controller. PlayStation earbuds were also announced, which can be paired with this device.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake: A Modern Classic

PlayStation Studios has announced the remake of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. While none of the gameplay was revealed, fans were treated to a new trailer leading to Snake's reveal.

The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 was also announced, including the OG Games, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, all coming to PlayStation 5 later this year.

Assassin's Creed Mirage: Focus

The new game in the iconic Assassin's Creed series - Assassin's Creed Mirage - has been given a release date on October 12. It will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Amazon Luna. It will also be released as an Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S game, so no one misses out!

The official gameplay trailer also displayed a new feature called Assassin's Focus, allowing the player to mark and assassinate several targets at once.

Final Fantasy XVI: Last Minute Reveal

Final Fantasy XVI's release date of June 22 is just around the corner. Still, Square Enix has launched a new story trailer to get fans invested in the new game in the franchise.

We get a brief glimpse of some of the new and returning Final Fantasy monsters and characters and the beautiful Valisthea.

Phantom Blade Zero: Hack and Slash Heaven

Phantom Blade Zero was revealed as a neck foray into the hack-n-slash genre. It is set in the Phantom World, where Chinese Kung Fu, steampunk, and dystopia collide.

The Souls-like game will feature fast-paced sword combat and a semi-open world to allow players to run free and wild.

Alan Wake 2: Wake Back Up!

Remedy Entertainment showcases another quick look at Alan Wake 2, the highly-anticipated horror sequel. This new trailer show Alan Wake's return, as he is trapped in the Dark Place. There looks to be another playable character, Saga Anderson, joining Wake in this adventure.

Foamstars: Splatoon Dupe?

Square Enix revealed their first look into Foamstar, a fun and colorful team shooter game, drawing inspiration from the Persona series and Nintendo Switch games Splatoon.

The game takes place in a cyberpunk-spalshed sprawling metropolis city, and is sure to draw in fans of all age ranges. Foamstar will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Indie Games Galore!

Indie game fans were served well in the PlayStation Showcase 2023, with plenty of offerings available. Here's a quick run-down of all the indie games announced at the event.

Sword of the Sea

Giant Squid, the iconic developers of Abzu, Pathless, and Journey, have revealed their next project, titled Sword of the Sea.

This whimsical gameplay trailer shows the protagonist in an abandoned world where the terrain flows and moves like water. With the fluid and everchanging environments, the character controls a Hoversword, which works like a combined snowboard, skateboard, and hoverboard in one.

Tower of Aghasba: Breath of the Wild-inspired

The gameplay footage for Tower of Aghasba from Dreamlit Games showcases a character traversing an epic and open natural world with a paraglider, passing dozens of beasts and creatures, even a giant sentient turtle!

There are tons of RPG, underwater, and town-building elements to appeal to all gamers!

Neva: Inner Peace In A Game

Creators of indie darling Gris, Nomada Studio, have dropped a reveal trailer for their newest project, Neva, which shows the beauty in life, death, and nature.

The short trailer is hauntingly beautiful and seems reminiscent of a Studio Ghibli movie, and takes viewers on a rollercoaster of emotions in just two minutes.

The Plucky Squire: Off The Page, Into Adventure

The Plucky Squire is a fun-filled action-adventure game, with comic-book visuals, with a host of quirky heroes embarking on a journey to thwart evil, with their trusty dog companion, Pip, alongside them.

The Plucky Squire will be released on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch later this year.

Cat Quest: A Swashbuckling Journey

Cat Quest: Pirates of the Purribean was revealed at the PlayStation Showcase, giving a pirate twist on the original cat game.

Complete with pirate hats and ships, Cat Quest: Pirates of the Purribean is a perfectly charming hack-n-slash game as you are the very purrson to take on various scallywags and sail your way to adventure.

Revenant Hill: A Hidden Gem

Made by the creators of the gothic game, A Night In The Woods, Revenant Hill is a side-scrolling adventure starring a black cat in beautifully hand-drawn landscapes, journeying through cities and rural countryside. Check out the announcement trailer.

  • Revenant Hill is expected to arrive on PlayStation 5 sometime next year.

Ultros: A Kaleidoscope Of Color

Ultros showed off its first look during the PlayStation Showcase. It is a platformer Metroidvania with a spectrum of colorful environments and hauntingly-beautiful soundtracks coming to PlayStation 4, 5, and Windows PC.

Five New PSVR 2 Titles

New games and trailers were announced for the PSVR2 during the PlayStation Showcase, here is brief run-down on all of them.

  • Crossfire Sierra Squad - Crossfire: Sierra Squad is now brought to VR, amping up the intensity before your eyes for adrenaline-pumping fun. The release date is set to be Summer 2023.
  • Synapse - Synapse is an epic action adventure published by nDreams. With one hand, the player has telekinetic abilities; with the other, they use old-fashioned gunpower. The release date is July 4, 2023.
  • Arizona Sunshine 2 - Arizona Sunshine 2 is a gory post-apocalyptic adventure set in the desert of Arizona that sees the player fight against hordes of zombies with an arsenal of weapons, accompanied by Buddy the Dog.
  • Beat Saber - The iconic dance VR title will feature a new music pack with eleven songs from the cult band Queen. Those who have purchased Beat Saber for PSVR will receive the PSVR2 upgrade for free.
  • Cosmodread - Cosmodread is a welcome addition to the world of horror as a uniquely scary horror roguelite set in space. The release date was the same as today's PlayStation Showcase on May 24 2023.
