Are you tired of the same username from which you first made your VALORANT account or do you want to change your name from "UwU_Kitten_69"? Luckily for VALORANT players, changing your Riot ID has never been easier, and guess what? It won't even cost a penny!
Riot Games is the umbrella company for popular titles like VALORANT, League of Legends, TeamFight Tactics, Wild Rift, and Legends of Runterra. This means that one simple name change will affect your username across all of their titles. Here's everything you need to know about changing your VALORANT name to affect games like VALORANT and League of Legends.
If you've grown out of the same name you chose when you first started playing VALORANT, no problem!
Follow these simple step-by-step instructions below to easily change your name in VALORANT, which works across all Riot titles, including TeamFight Tactics and League of Legends.
A Riot ID can be alphanumeric, anywhere from three to sixteen characters long. It doesn't necessarily have to be an entirely unique username, as it becomes unique when accompanied by your individual Riot Games tagline. If you want to add some spice to your new Riot ID, you can include special characters like ö, ä, and more.
In this section, you can also change your Riot tagline, which can be found at the end of your name. It usually includes either numbers or letters, like EUW1 or something similar. Like your Riot ID, all taglines are alphanumerical, so you can change it to anything you like. The main requirement is that it must be three to five characters long.
In the name-changing process, there are some rules you must follow. Riot Games could potentially flag your Riot ID or block your Riot accounts for inappropriate language or hate speech. In the case of repeat offenses, they may even charge your account!
Here are some names you should avoid when changing your Riot ID:
Until November 20, 2023, players could change their VALORANT name and tagline once every 30 days. However, Riot Games have recently reworked their system for 2024, so you'll only get a free Riot ID change once every 90 days. Make sure you choose your new name wisely, as you'll be stuck with it for a while if you make a mistake!
In October 2023, Riot announced plans to introduce a paid-for system where you'd have to pay real money to change your Riot ID, which would only be changeable once every 365 days. However, the community was up in arms about this proposed change, and Riot scrapped this idea. So, changing your in-game name remains free and can happen once every 90 days.
There you have it: that was our complete guide to changing your name in VALORANT—for free. The one exception is if you recently changed your account name and are facing negative effects like bullying or harassment. You can always submit a ticket to Riot Games Support to request a name change, and they should help you, but don't abuse this system.
