The multiverse of Fortnite is ever-expanding, not only with pop-culture crossovers like Star Wars or TMNT but with multiple modes to dive into. You can jam out to your favorite tracks in Fortnite Festival, race against the clock in Fortnite Racing, build a base in LEGO Fortnite, or enjoy a good ol' match of Battle Royale Fortnite.
With all these game modes, you can team up and play with a squad of pre-invited friends, regardless of what platform they're using. Keep reading to learn how to allow cross-platform play on Fortnite and how matchmaking works with Fortnite cross-play.
Fortnite is available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Android mobile devices.
With Fortnite crossplay, you can enjoy the free battle royale title with friends on (almost) any other console or device. For example, Xbox players can join up with players on PC or PlayStation.
If you're playing on Xbox or PlayStation, you must ensure your Epic Games account is linked to your console.
Matchmaking can be tricky with cross-platform Fortnite matches to ensure balance and fairness for all participating players. For example, you can't have PC players playing against mobile, especially with PC players' superior hardware, increased resolution, and better controls.
As such, the player at the top of the platform hierarchy in the current Fortnite lobby is what you'll be matched into. For example, if there's a PS5 player, an Android mobile player, and a PC player all in the same squad, you'll all be playing against other players on PC.
To play with your friends on different consoles or PCs and dive from the Battle Bus, you'll need to create a new Epic account or log into an existing one
Once you've done this, add the friends you want to play with through the Epic Games Launcher. You can also add other players by entering their Epic usernames or account-registered email addresses in the "Social tab" via the Fortnite lobby. Your friend's display name may differ from their console ID, so ensure you enter it correctly.
Once they've accepted your friend request, they can join you by clicking your display name in the Friends List and selecting Join Party. Now you can parachute from the Battle Bus together through cross-play, no matter what platform!
Disclaimer: If you're playing on PlayStation or Xbox, you need to allow cross-platform play through your console's settings.
