Last updated: June 26 (Added final schedules and standings results).
June 11 marks the starting flag for the 20th ESL Pro Tour DreamLeague Season and will be a milestone event. It is the last big Dota 2 tournament before the all-important Bali Major.
Straight after the end of the 3rd Tour of the DPC Division I, the best teams from across the world will fly to Europe for a chance to compete for the $1,000,000 prize pool on the line and a direct invitation to the Group Stage of Riyadh Masters. Here's everything Dota 2 fans can expect from ESL DreamLeague Season 20.
ESL DreamLeague Season 20: Format
Sixteen teams will compete in DreamLeague Season 20. Six teams are competing from Western Europe, and two are from Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, South America, and China. The teams are predetermined and invited using the EPT ranking system.
The competition follows the same format as the ESL DreamLeague Season 19, with three stages: two Group Stages and the Playoffs.
Group Stage 1
- There will be two groups of eight teams each, playing in a single round-robin format
- All matches will be best-of-two
- The top four teams from each group (eight teams in total) advance to the second Group Stage
Group Stage 2
- One group of eight teams in another single round-robin
- All matches are best of three
- The top two teams advance to the Playoffs Upper Bracket, while 3rd-4th advance to the Lower Bracket
- The remaining teams are eliminated
Playoffs
- Features a double elimination bracket
- All matches are best of three, excluding the Grand Final, which is best of five
ESL DreamLeague Season 20: Teams
All invitations are based on the EPT ELO-based ranking system, which guarantees that each region will get at least one secured slot, and high ELO regions can earn additional slots. Each region has its own ELO figure.
For each region with at least two invited teams, the results of the best team are updated to prevent a strong team's results from earning a disproportionate number of slots for their region. Let's take a look at each region and their representing teams.
Western Europe
This region is home to some of the top teams in the Dota 2 esports scene. Gaimin Gladiators emerged victorious from the Berlin Major in May.
- Gaimin Gladiators
- Entity
- OG
- Team Liquid
- Team Secret
- Tundra Esports
Eastern Europe
Eastern Europe hosts some strong teams for DreamLeague Season 20, including 9Pandas (formerly Ex-Hellraisers) and Team Spirit. 9Pandas, in particular, had a strong outing at the Berlin Major, coming in third.
China
Two teams represent China in ESL DreamLeague Season 20 - Team Aster and PSG.LGD, powerhouses in China's esports world.
North America
Shopify Rebellion and TSM want to improve their lacklustre performances at the Berlin Major, where they came in 11th and 17th, respectively.
South America
South America hosts two worthy contenders for the DreamLeague Season 20 win; beastcoast and Evil Geniuses. Only time will tell if they will emerge victorious!
Southeast Asia
Dota 2 reigns supreme in Southeast Asia, where Talon Esports and Execration are the region's two representing teams for DreamLeague Season 20. Execration dropped out on S20 of DreamLeague, and have been replaced by BetBoom Team as a last-minute stand-in.
- Talon Esports
- BetBoom Team
