Beyond the Summit continues to put on straight fire Dota events in Southeast Asia and beyond, with the latest edition of the BTS Pro Series being one of the best we’ve seen so far. Here’s everything you need to know about the event, including BTS Pro Series betting tips and the rest of the event’s schedule.
Single round-robin group stages with best-of-two matches to seed the double-elimination playoffs bracket, which consists of best-of-three matches all the way to the BTS Pro Series grand final, which is, as is tradition in most Dota 2 tournaments, a best-of-five. The prize pool of this online-only event is $50 000, $14 000 of which is distributed for group stage wins, $250 a pop. The winner will also bank half of the remainder of the pool, $18 000, for triumphing over the rest of the competition at BTS Pro Series.
The BTS Pro Series Season 7 invitees were T1, Fnatic, Motivate.Trust Gaming and Team SMG. Curiously, only Fnatic finished in the upper half of the group stage, with the qualifier winners dominating the round robin portion of the event. Southeast Asia’s best and brightest then proceeded to play out the playoffs bracket where experience clearly began to show through, with only Galaxy Racer making the top three at the end of the day against the veteran opposition.
Here are the most important esports betting elements and storylines to consider about the BTS Pro Series this time around if you’re considering to bet on the exploits of Southeast Asian Dota 2’s best and brightest.
Fnatic’s upset victory in the Southeast Asian last chance qualifiers over favorites TNC Predator means they will be the region’s last representative at the showpiece competition. Naturally, this gives them very different incentives in this tournament from the other participants.
They will not want to tip their hand in terms of top tier strategies developed specifically for TI10, and this also means that their performances here shouldn’t really be taken into account when predicting their future performances at the biggest esports event of the world. The fact that they still managed a deep run here while having a $40 million-sized other thing to focus on bodes well for their prospects in general, but not because of their specific strategies.
The fact that it’s been so long since the last major Dota 2 patch means that BTS Pro Series betting considerations should factor in a very mature metagame, meaning those with a lot of experience and a good in-depth understanding of how the various heroes interact in 7.29d will inevitably have a significant edge over those who have a more narrow toolkit to work with in terms of their hero pools and item builds. It’s of little surprise that Lion, Luna and Templar Assassin have been the most-picked Dota 2 heroes at the event so far at the time of writing, as it’s a fair reflection of the wider metagame in 7.29d overall.
This makes the invited teams and the more experienced sides more likely to perform well at BTS Pro Series Season 7 than their open qualifier counterparts, an observation that seems to be playing out as expected based on the odds at this event so far.
You could be forgiven for thinking that previous iterations of this tournament may have predictive power when it comes to season 7 of the BTS Pro Series, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. The field of participants is very different, for one, and the rest of the Dota 2 competitive circuit was still in full swing back in May, which meant that bigger teams had very little incentive to focus on this event. There’s a reason BTS Pro Series Season 6 is marked as a tier 3 event on Liquipedia!
This means the competition is a lot spicier this time around, with bigger teams involved in the fight for supremacy. This significantly lowers the chances of underdog sides as the skill ceiling is way higher than before. Dota 2 betting decisions need to revolve around the individual event in question, not the past results, in order to get the most bang for your buck!
