Moonton's MOBA mobile game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is skyrocketing in popularity, with its accessibility and unique roster of over 120 different characters - it's no wonder it has an average of 100,000 daily players! The competitive scene of MLBB is also booming, with pro tournaments like the MPL and Snapdragon Pro Series rapidly gaining traction.
With more options than any other MOBA in the scene, beginner players may feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of heroes in the game and need help knowing where to begin.
Not to worry - Rivalry has got you covered! By the end of this article, you will know exactly all the class categories in ML and which heroes are beginner-friendly!
ML heroes often need to be unlocked through battle points, earned through consistently playing the game, or by purchasing them outright with the premium currency, Diamonds - we have a guide on how to get free ML diamonds here.
Before we dive into the best heroes for newcomers, we'll briefly discuss each of the six classes all Mobile Legends characters are divided into.
Assassins work best in the Jungle as off-lane ML heroes. They farm XP and Gold before making their presence known to the enemy team. They are agile heroes that often have a single-target focus with high-burst damage capabilities.
Fighters are well-balanced all-rounded heroes that excel with various builds and team compositions. They can act as an off-Tank for their team or the main damage dealer. They take time to warm up and become stronger with more items, so the longer the game continues, the harder they can carry.
Mages are typical spellcasters, with high magic damage and crowd-control abilities and combos to master. Mages are usually found in the Mid-lane and are primary targets during a team fight. They need to be protected or keep their distance.
Marksmen are ranged MLBB heroes that dish out damage from afar, like an ADC in League of Legends. They are usually late-game carries that excel through farming Gold and XP with the help of their Support and are found in the Bottom lane.
Supports are the lifeline of their team and usually stick to their teams' Marksman like glue. Their role is to buff, heal, and protect their team. A Support hero increases their team's chance of winning just by keeping them alive.
The Tanks' role is to be the frontline and shield for their team, soaking up the damage and peeling for their squishier teammates. They are usually the ones to initiate a team fight, getting up close and personal with the enemy, and as such, have high defense and health stats with low damage.
Ranged options like Marksmen or Mages are the best for newbies, allowing players to keep their distance while learning the game. Fighters also have defensive and offensive capabilities, meaning players can customize their build to suit their playstyle and preference.
Here are nine of the best heroes for newcomers to Mobile Legends, with some from each class, so you feel free in your options! You can also check out our relevant MLBB hero tier list for up-to-date info on what works in the current meta using real data.
The poster child for Mobile Legends herself - Miya. She was one of the starter heroes players can pick up when they first play the game, making her a prime choice. She is a Marksman capable of raining damage on opponents from afar, great at clearing minion waves. She has mobility options for players looking for escape routes.
With her long-range basic attacks and passive that increases her Attack Range, Layla is a perfect Marksman for new players, with the tutorial being centred around her kit! Her Ultimate allows her to target multiple enemy characters at one, making her a breeze for beginner players.
Lesley is an interesting character that fits into two categories: Marksman and Assassin. She is viable in tons of situations. She has a long attack range, so she can harass enemies during fights from a safe distance and push lanes with ease.
Rafaela is a Support that can quickly heal teammates, and she has some crowd-control abilities at her disposal for enemies that get too close. Her Ultimate stuns enemies for around 2 seconds, making her an excellent Support for new players to unlock.
Estes is another great Support option, providing much survivability for himself and the rest of his team. He can simultaneously heal multiple allies and has slowing abilities to prevent enemies from escaping.
The vamp queen herself - Alice. As a Mage, she is designed to keep her distance from a battle, already making her a winner for new players. She has life-steal abilities that make her virtually impossible to kill. If enemies get too close, she has an escape ability and an Ultimate that grants her invincibility for several seconds!
Eudora is an easy-to-learn Mage dealing tons of magic damage in an instant. She has the potential to stun a crowd of enemies, especially when using her passive. Players only need to worry about mastering her combos to maximize her kit.
Balmond is a typical Fighter hero with melee capabilities. He is manaless, so players don't need to worry about resource management. His skills are also easy to understand and are pretty basic. If that's not enough, he can heal himself whenever he kills minions or enemies. He is also relatively cheap to unlock, making him a must-have when first starting out!
Utilizing simple and powerful stun abilities, Tigreal is a must-have character for players wanting to dive into the Tank role. His Ultimate can be used to initiate team fights, while her abilities can pull in opponents and keep them from escaping with slowing techniques.
